Windows keeps forgetting simple settings, such as screen colors!

  • This type of problem is usually caused by you not being "logged in" to your system.
  • Double-click on the Network icon in Control Panel, and click on the Identification tab.
  • Make sure all of the fields are filled in correctly (if you're not on a network, just make up something for each field), press Ok, and restart your computer.

This problem appears to have been fixed in Windows Me, 2000, and XP.
