I noticed that I was also getting the following Event errors (even with Auto updates and Search Services disabled).

Event Source:    Service Control Manager

Event Category:                None

Event ID:              7036

Date:                     9/2/2010

Computer:          SNAKEDRIVER

Description:

The Automatic Updates service entered the running state.

Event Category:                Database Page Cache

Event ID:              476

Date:                     9/2/2010

Time:                     10:40:28

Description:

wuauclt (1628) The database page read from the file "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.edb" at offset 20480 (0x0000000000005000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification because it contains no page data.  The read operation will fail with error -1019 (0xfffffc05).  If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup.

Looks like it might be time for a re-install, but I'd really like to know what happened.
