Stand-by command

I can click on "shut down" and the choice of "stand-By" is available.
clicking on Stand-by gives me an error message that says my keyboard
driver is keeping me from going on stand-by. I have found that if I do
nothing, my screen will go black with windows XP lit up and will stay that
way until I decide to go back on. Should I try to straighten this out?
I am told my keyboard driver is working O.K.
