NO SOUND AT ALL!
I need help to trace the problem. It started a few weeks ago when a couple of apps didn't play back sound (video OK) other apps worked (like Creative Play Center and other music players). I blamed those couple of apps. But now no sound at all.

Dell Dimension 8300, Pentium 4 CPU   3.0 GHz,  Graphics: ATI All In Wonder 9600 series,(2) disk drives ( 75 GB for system and apps, 150 GB for data like graphics or music). Windows XP Home.

I have two sound boards (PCI) installed:  First one is Creative SBLive! Value (WDM), the second M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496. I reinstalled the drivers from the orig. CD supplied with the boards (and worked for a couple or more years). Sound output is connected to a Sony Micro HIFI (CMT-NE5)

1. Mechanical connections between PC soundboard and HiFi are OK, microphone plugged in to SBLive! Value "Mic In"  works well to sound the HiFi.
2. Windows XP Device Manager: clicking on either the SB Live! or Audiophile  - General Tab - "This Device works properly". In Resource tab "No Conflict" for either of them.
3. Device Manager's Troubleshooter no help.
4. I can - in Device Manager -  clicking on the board disable or enable either board separately. Doesn't make any difference.
5. The only yellow (!) mark in Device Manager is on M-Systems DiskOnChip 2000 under PCMCIA and flash memory device ("Windows cannot determine the settings for this device") I have no idea what this is. Probably it has nothing to do with sound.  Anyhow, anything else in Device Manager seems OK.
6. When playing a wav file in Creative Play Center, Wave SE or others, and watching the M Audio Mixer (Master Volume Zero db) the Mixer Inputs - Wave out 1/2 Indicator lights up and works. (M-Audio Control Panel and Monitor Mixer Tab).
7. Oops... The Volume Slider in Creative Play Center is red "X" ed out (Mute) and I cannot change it. WHY? Does it sense the absence of soundboards?
7. In M-Audio Mixer Patchbay/Router tab: Wave out 1/2 button is on and H/W Out S/PDOF Button is on. but in S/PDIF tab: Digital Input "Not present"

I tried to give as much relevant info as I could. Probably, there were many other things I tried to no avail.

Please help, thank you.
