Seems to me you have a compatibility problem. The SDHC cards use sector addressing while SD cards use byte addressing. Quoting Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card#SDHC), "SD and SDHC cards and devices have these compatibility issues: Devices that do not specifically support SDHC do not recognize SDHC memory cards. Some devices can support SDHC through a firmware upgrade. . ." Your old HP can't understand SDHC formatting; check with HP for a firmware upgrade to the built-in card reader in your desktop.
