Wireless Internet/Driver Conflict?

We have a laptop with Windows Vista that we just got from my father. Their internet worked fine on it but ours will not. We have a Verizon Wireless USB device rather than a dial-up or cable modem to connect with. We had Verizon test the device and it all loaded fine on their computer and it loaded fine on our previous laptop. The problem seems to be in the configuration of the port and drivers. We can install the program just fine but it will not detect the device even though when we plug it even Microsoft says "New Hardware Detected" but won't find the driver even though the driver is clearly in there and working fine when we look at it. So we're not sure what the problem is and how to fix it. Any ideas? We cannot get online at home to try to fix it.
