Desktop can't connect via to network

My son's computer will not connect to our wireless network. A direct cable connection
works just fine, but not the wireless. It used to work, but then suddenly quit.
It is a Gateway that is not yet 1 year old. I took it in for repairs because previously
even the cable connection wouldn't work. They said they got both the cable and the
wireless working.

We have a Netgear router. The computer used a Netgear wireless USB adapter. I thought
the problem might be with that adapter since the light didn't stay on, but kept blinking,
so I unstalled that adapter and tried to install a linksys adapter we used to use
when we had a linksys router. I can't get that to install correctly. It installs,
but then I get a message saying that it was not installed correctly.

I would love to get this fixed for my son since he's coming home in a couple days
after having been at boot camp for the last 5 months!
