Backup actrivation from unbootable installation

Hello, I am working on a Vista laptop which has suffered the KSOD (Black Screen of Death) problem. I have tried various fixes and cannot seem to find any way to repair the install, so I'm going to go with a full reinstall. But, I wish to backup the Vista activation prior to doing this, so that I can re-activate it after reinstallation. There is a tool out there that backs up your certificate and gets the product key, but the problem with this is that it requires the OS to be booted because it runs within the install you're trying to backup the activation for. I can boot Linux or a BartPE disc on the laptop - that is, I can access any of its data. I can access its registry files using REGEDT32. But, I don't know if it is possible/how to backup the activation manually from the installation. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how this can be accomplished? Thanks fm
