From examining the latest statements on that site, its intention appears to be merely to introduce new forms of advertising - of benefit only to itself, not to users - which I'm sure we can well live without. Specifically, they are now saying explicitly that it will remain possible to view videos on their site using any browser. This is a old tactic, long abused by Micro$oft in its campaign against Windows 9x users, of pretending that the sky will fall unless you obey their demands. I've noticed that Firefox 2 is quite effective on the YouTube site, much more so than Internet Explorer 6. So I always use Firefox 2 there now: it doesn't get nearly the same level of abuse from the site that they hurl at Internet Explorer 6. However, Firefox 3 will run on Windows ME (whereas Internet Explorer 7 won't). If you install the kernel extender (KernelEx.exe), to add certain functions that are commonly used by Windows XP, Firefox 3 and quite a variety of other WinXP programs will happily run on a Windows ME system. In this respect, WinME has some advantages over Windows 98, because the higher powered hardware of WinME seems to handle the WinXP software a little more easily.
