I think it might have something to do with the modem or wireless card. It has
some sort of internal modem I haven't used for years, and it also has a wireless
card that someone installed for me years ago. Someone on another board said that
the specific VXD error I am getting is probably that. I know it took a while for
the guy to set it up right with Windows 98, the old pc, and the wireless card, so
he had to figure out how to do it so it would work...
Let me ask you, if I remove what is listed under modem, and it turns out that
is the wireless card, will it re-add it in? I am not sure what kind it is or where
the drivers are, so that's why I'm asking. Or would the wireless card be listed under
something else?
I went into Device Manager and see three different types of modem listed, one
is under "modem"; it says MDP3900V-U Modem.
one is under HFC MODEM; it says MDP3900 PCI Modem Enumerator.
and the other is under Alcatel Speed Touch Modem; it says Alcatel Speed Touch
ADSL Modem.
The alcatel is our old DSL modem that it connected to wirelessly (we use a different
one now, but I was told I didn't need to install anything special on the computers
that connect with wireless, it worked fine until now).
Help!
I might take it in tomorrow to the shop, it is still crashing whenever I run anything.
I would like to fix it myself instead, of course, but kind of out of time.
