I know NOTHING about using Windows-based PC's. I learned computing on an iMac that
I used happily for four years. Then I couldn't keep up with the cost of new hardware
and software. So I just got a refurb Microsoft toss-out (live in Seattle): monitor,
hard drive, keyboard, mouse and surge protector.
Being a low-rent deal, he dismantled it, I drove it home and reconnected everything.
All the indicator light came on. No desktop. Yesterday I noticed, among the ownership
forms, a CD-ROM marked "Driver & Software"
He didn't mention it. sigh. Anyway, I plugged it into the little drawer of the hard
drive, fed it in and crossed my fingers.
They're still crossed. No desktop.
Twice, I've seen ultra-dark, smudgy and brief error screens.
One said something like 'Insufficient Input'.
I know the monitor works. It was on when I picked it up. I haven't dropped it, just
jostled it a little getting it in and out of the subcompact.
The setup's guaranteed is top shape. I'm pretty bummed.
I didn't think just turning it on would require outside help.
If I'm dumbing my way into trouble I'd love to know how.
thanks, bruce
