HP loads a bunch of software that starts up. Some of it is difficult to get rid
of. It is meant to "hold your hand" in case there are some issues that you may be
having. It does some sort of "disgnostics" to check for issues when it starts amoung
other things, and I have seen it give the "not responding" message sometimes until
it's done IME. You can get rid of the junk, but if you have to call for support,
they will depend on the utilities that they install to help you diagnose some of
the issues or to work on your system remotely. Everytime you start up, it contacts
HP. If you have a slow internet connection, or your ISP has an issue, that will
slow things down a lot.
Start time for my system for instance: Win 7 64 Ultimate (typical default install),
Asus p6td-deluxe board, Intel I7 960 Extreme (3.2 gig), 12 gig triple channel
RAM running stock speed, 2 SATA HDD 1 terr (running non RAID), 1 eSATA 500 gig
HDD, 2 SATA DVD burners, 2 DVI out 1 gig grapics card with two widescreen monitors,
FIOS internet 25 up/25 down, Avira for AV. From Windows start to desktop and useable,
less than 15 seconds (closer to 10 sometimes less) believe it or not. Once you get
used to it, you never go back. Oh, I build my own machines. I hate off the shelf
big OEM stuff for many reasons. LOL
