I usually avoid running programs that reside on another computer.  If I want to run it, I copy it to the local computer.  Better yet, I install it on the local computer.

Simple programs generally run well when not "installed".

Firefox runs okay that way but there are 2 gotchas.  When started, it won't remember the window size it had when previously shut down.  Also Free Download Manager won't integrate itself with Firefox unless Firefox has been installed.

Foxit is a time bomb when run without installing.  It can do serious damage to "open with" when run that way.
