Well, it would be good to run some tests and be sure of it.
There are a few questions to answer.
One, when the connection to the server is lost, can the user still get on the internet?
Can the user ping the server? That type of thing.
In order to find out for sure, you need to setup a test. Ping the internet, and
ping the server indefinitely until the problem occurs, then review the logs.
Here's how. Open two command prompt windows. In the first window type the command
"ping yahoo.com -t > c:\yahoo-test.txt" and press ENTER. You won't see anything
happening, just leave that window open indefinitely.
In the other window, type "ping -t > c:\server-test.txt" and press ENTER.
Replace with the IP address of your server. Leave that window open
indefinitely.
Now, when the computer experieneces the disconnect problem. Open the two files C:\yahoo-text.txt
and c:\server-test.txt in notepad and scroll around in it looking for "request timed
out" or other significant drops in the connection around that time.
If the connection drops to both the server and the internet, it is probably the switch
because multiple computers are experiencing the problem.
If the connection drops just to the server and not the internet, it may just be an
issue with server, network adapter, or cable to the server.
You can improvise your own tests to narrow the problem down.
