Network Printer persistence

I have a small domain network with one W2K legacy due to one specific application
that I can't update to XP. This machine is also "stand alone" (no network connection)
most of the time. It's on a cart, and when a print needs to be done, it's wheeled
across the room and plugged into the network.
The machine never "remembers" its network printer across rebooting. The user has
to either "add a new printer" or use Windows Explorer to browse for the remote XP
computer's printer and right click "connect". The user is a Luddite, so the process
is pretty onerous.
I tried a wireless dongle, but it didn't work very reliably.
Isn't there a way to define the printer as permanent?
